Effect of exogenous ammonium on glutamine synthetase, glutamate synthase, and glutamate dehydrogenase in the root of rice seedling

Wuhan University Journal of Natural Sciences 4(3): 358-362

Root biomass of rice (Oryza sativa Taichung Native 1) seedlings was increased at low concentrations (0.1-40 micro g/ml) of exogenous NH4+, but it was decreased at high concentration (300 micro g/ml) of exogenous NH4+ compared with controls. The level of free NH4+ in roots increased gradually with increasing NH4+ concentration in the nutrient solution. The content of soluble proteins increased up to 40 micro g NH4+/ml but then levelled off at higher NH4+ concentrations.
