Effect of gamma irradiation on respiration, ethylene production and quality of cold stored Laetitia and Songold plums

Effect of gamma irradiation on respiration, ethylene production and quality of cold stored Laetitia and Songold plums

Deciduous Fruit Grower 48(4): 1-7

The effects of target gamma radiation dose rates of 150, 300 and 400 Gy, derived from a Co60 source, on the quality of plums after 6 weeks of cold storage, were investigated. The target doses resulted in minimum absorbed levels of 300, 330 and 500 Gy, respectively. In Laetitia and Songold plums, skin colour and decay after cold storage for 35 days were not affected by radiation. Shrivel in Laetitia plums was increased at an absorbed dose of 500 Gy.
