Effect of light intensity on growth, feed intake and feather pecking behaviour in beak trimmed and bitted pheasant chickens (Phasianus colchicus)

Effect of light intensity on growth, feed intake and feather pecking behaviour in beak trimmed and bitted pheasant chickens (Phasianus colchicus)

Archiv fur Geflugelkunde 61(4): 167-171

Pheasant chickens (n=3550) were reared from 0 to 42 days at different light intensities, 3 or 30 lux. All chickens were beak-trimmed at 3 weeks and bitted at 4 weeks of age. At 3, 4, 5 and 6 weeks of age, body weight was higher in those exposed to 30 lux. Feed intake and mortality were not affected by light intensity. More feather pecking was seen in high-light intensity conditions. Plumage scores were slightly worse in high-light intensity.
