Effect of nitrogen and weed control practices on yield and quality of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) L

In a field trial at Pusa in 1992-94, sugarcane was given 60, 120 or 180 kg N/ha and 6 weed control treatments, comprising 1 kg/ha of pre-emergence atrazine or metribuzin plus 1 kg post-emergence 2,4-D, 0.1 kg pre-emergence oxyfluorfen plus 2,4-D, 2 hand weedings, hoeing at monthly intervals, and unweeded controls. Weed dry weight increased with increasing N rate, and among weed control treatments was lowest with hand weeding.
