Effect of plant age on nature of losses caused by sterility mosaic in pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan) (L.) Millsp

Effect of plant age on nature of losses caused by sterility mosaic in pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan) (L.) Millsp

Journal of Applied Biology 7(1/2): 75-77

A glasshouse experiment was conducted to find out the effect of plant age on the nature of losses caused by sterility mosaic (pigeonpea sterility mosaic virus) in 2 pigeon pea varieties (UPAS-120 and T-21). In variety UPAS-120, plant height, pod length, pod width, number of grains per pod and 1000-grains weight were significantly reduced and showed complete sterility when infected at an early age (5 weeks). Older plants showed decreased susceptibility.
