Effect of plant spacing on yield of cowpea-sorghum intercrop

Field experiments were carried out in Uganda for two years (1994-95) to determine optimum intra-row spacing for cowpea-sorghum intercrops. Four intra-row spacings (10, 20, 30 or 40 cm) of each crop were used with one local cowpea cultivar (Ebelat) and one sorghum cultivar (Seredo) grown as sole crops and intercrops. Land equivalent ratios were between 1.41 and 1.76, indicating high yield advantages from intercropping.
