Effect of seed treatment on storability of seeds of different crops

Seed treatment of wheat, sorghum, cotton and gram with TMTD @ 2.5 g/kg seed, improved the shelf life of seed and kept seed mycoflora under check upto nine months of storage. Retreatment with TMTD after nine month storage was beneficial to check the development of storage fungi when the effect of prestorage seed treatment starts reducing. Retreatment also resulted in prologing the shelf life of these seeds beyond 18 months and upto 27 months. Seeds of cowpea and pigeonpea showed little effect of seed treatments as their seeds had a good seed storage life even in the absence of any treatment.
