Effect of soil recultivation treatments on growth, yield and leaf mineral content of 'Jonagold' apple trees

A trial was established in 1987 to investigate alternatives to chemical treatment for replant disease in apples. Trees of the cultivar Jonagold were planted in an orchard that had been in apples for 15 years. Trees were planted in holes that were filled with the original soil (control), fresh soil, sphagnum moss, peat, ammonium phosphate, farmyard manure, old soil that had been limed or old soil mulched with black polyethylene.
