Effect of zinc and boron on the shelf life of guava cv. Sardar (Psidium guajava L.)

In experiments at Pantnagar, Nainital, India, foliar applications of ZnSO4 (0.3 or 0.5%) and/or borax (0.3 or 0.5%), or water, were made to 6-year-old trees of guava Sardar. Selected fruits were collected and stored for 6 days in perforated plastic trays at room temperature (23.5-35.4 degrees C) and 67-97% RH. Application of Zn alone significantly reduced the spoilage of fruits and increased their post-harvest life, irrespective of the concentration used.
