A complete 2 x 2 x 4 factorial design was used to examine the main effects of dietary fat type (10% soya oil or 10% beef tallow), xylanase supplementation (with or without Avizyme 1200 1 g/kg diet) and pentosan level (calculated to contain 7.7, 11.0, 14.3 and 17.6 g/kg soluble pentosans by varying wheat:rye proportions) and their interactions on broiler performance, intestinal viscosity and carcass characteristics. The 16 diets were tested in a growth study beginning from day 1 and ending at 35 days of age, using male Lohmann broilers, 8 replicates per diet of 14 chicks.
