Effects of postpartum body condition score of beef cows on milk components and weaning weights of calves

Effects of postpartum body condition score of beef cows on milk components and weaning weights of calves

Animal Science Research Report Agricultural Experiment Station, Oklahoma State University (P-958): 54-59

During 1995 and 1996, body condition scores (BCS) of 156 spring-calving beef cows from the Range Cow Research Center, Oklahoma, USA, were evaluated 8-14 days after parturition. Quarter milk samples were collected for analysis of fat, protein, lactose and SNF. Cows were classified by BCS (<=3.5, 4.0, 4.5 or >=5.0) and by age (young, <=5 years; and old, >=6 years). Weaning weights were adjusted to 205-day weights (ADJWW). BCS did not influence milk composition.
