The effects of pre-harvest foliar application or post-harvest dipping in a solution made from oyster shells (OS-Ca) on the storage life of apples, (cultivars Fuji and Tsugaru) stored for up to 120 days, were investigated. Post-harvest treatment with OS-Ca significantly increased the Ca and soluble pectin contents of fruits in Tsugaru. Foliar application of OS-Ca in Fuji increased the contents of insoluble and water soluble pectins.
