Epidemiological aspects of Rhodococcus equi in horses from Bage county, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

The epidemiology of R. equi infection was studied at 6 horse breeding farms in Bage county. Soil samples (n=36) and equine faeces (n=143) were collected. Six soil samples were also used for pH and organic matter (OM) determination. R. equi was present in soil and faecal samples from all 6 farms. 27/36 (75%) soil samples and 95/143 (66%) faecal samples were positive.
