Evaluation of three methods to determine grain tannin contents in sorghum, and studies on differences in tannin content among panicles and distribution in sorghum grain

Six inbred lines of sorghum were analysed for grain tannin contents by three assays: vanillin hydrochloric acid (V-HCl), modified vanillin hydrochloric acid (MV-HCl) and MV-HCl (24-hour extraction). The MV-HCl (24-hour) method was the most sensitive for detecting differences in tannin levels among genotypes. Tannin contents did not differ between grains from different parts of the panicle.
