Root material was collected in 1991 in Poland from 49- and 30-year-old Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and in 1993 from 2-year-old stumps. In the 49-year-old stand, fungi density on stump roots was greater than on living roots, while the opposite was found in the 30-year-old stand.
