Genetic characteristics for Hanwoo, Yanbian yellow cattle and Wagyu using DNA markers

The genetic variation and genetic relationships among Hanwoo Yanbian cattle from China and Wagyu cattle were examined. DNA fingerprinting was performed using an M13 probe and PstI endonuclease. Genetic homogeneities of Korean Native and Yanbian cattle were lower than that of Japanese Native cattle; it is suggested that this is an effect of selection during breeding programmes for Wagyu cattle and that Korean Native and Yanbian cattle have a greater potential for improvement by selection.
