An overview is given on recent advance in the genetic study of male sterility in wheat. A dominant gene, Ms2 (Ta1), for male sterility, which has a recombination frequency of 31.16% with the centromere, is located on the short arm of chromosome 4D in Taigu wheat. Dwarf-marked male sterile wheat carries Ms2 and the dominant dwarf gene Rht10 as a marker. The two genes are closely linked, with a crossing-over value as low as 0.18.
