Laboratory and pot experiments were conducted to determine the effect of seed age of Mexican clover (Richardia scabra) on seed germination, seedling emergence and competition with two short season groundnut cultivars, Falcon and Plover. Germination, which decreased with seed age, was highest (58.5%) in 1-year-old seeds, whereas 9-year-old seeds failed to germinate. A similar trend occurred for seedling emergence which was <50% of the germination rate, irrespective of seed age.
