Growth and development of Helicoverpa armigera Hubner on different cultivated species of cotton

The growth and development of Helicoverpa armigera was investigated on four different cultivars of cotton. The mean larval weight was greatest when reared on the Gossypium hirsutum cultivar MCU 5 compared to the G. arboreum cultivar Srisailum, G. barbadense cultivar Suvin and G. herbaceum cultivar NA 5865. Similarly, larval development was faster on MCU 5. The duration of the larval-pupal period was approximately 37 days on Srisailum, and 31 days on MCU 5.
