Health status of sheep and goat flocks in the Campania region: seroepidemiological survey

Serological tests were carried out on 5445-6732 sheep and goats on 202-247 farms in 3 Italian provinces (Benevento, Avellino, and Caserta); 99 (1.8%) of 5445 animals and 35 (17.3%) of 202 farms were positive for visna maedi; 891 (15%) of 5931 animals and 120 (53.8%) of 223 farms were positive for chlamydiosis; 46 (0.8%) of 5943 animals and 26 (11.6%) of 223 farms were positive for paratuberculosis; and 602 (8.9%) of 6732 animals and 100 (40.5%) of 247 farms were positive in CF tests for brucellosis (in an ELISA, 1712, 25.4%, of the animals and 122, 49.4%, of the farms were positive or doubtful for brucellosis).
