Histopathological studies of Syrian golden hamsters experimentally infected with Leishmania d. infantum

, : Histopathological studies of Syrian golden hamsters experimentally infected with Leishmania d. infantum. Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology 27(3): 689-702

Syrian golden hamsters (n = 24) were chosen as a model animal for histopathological studies of Leishmania d. infantum Each week after intradermal inoculation with promastigotes, 2 hamsters were sacrificed and tissues from the liver, heart, lung, spleen, small intestine and kidney were sectioned and stained with haematoxylin and eosin or Giemsa. Leishmanial granulomas were the main histopathological feature and the liver was the main organ affected.
