Improvement of forage quality. Genetic transformation of alfalfa with poplar gene involved in lignin biosynthesis

Improvement of forage quality. Genetic transformation of alfalfa with poplar gene involved in lignin biosynthesis

Rasteniev"dni Nauki 35(9): 679-685

Sense and antisense constructs carrying the lignin biosynthesis gene CCoAOMT from poplar (Populus sp.) were introduced into highly embryogenic clones of lucerne (Medicago sativa) Rangelander via leaf disc transformation. Putative transformants were selected by in vitro culture in the presence of the selective agent hygromycin. Presence of the transgene was confirmed by PCR in 36 transformants; 14 contained an amplified product equal in size to that expected.
