The production of interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-10, interferon (IFN)- gamma , and IL-2 receptor (IL-2R) was investigated in mitogen-stimulated and unstimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cell cultures from 8 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/Leishmania infantum coinfected subjects matched with 8 anti-HIV-positive subjects with no evidence of Leishmania coinfection. The study was carried out in Cantania, Italy.
