Inheritance and heterosis of fibre length and yield in interspecific cotton (Gossypium hirsutum x G. barbadense) hybrids

During 1989-91, 8 F2 hybrids of reciprocal crosses between 2 G. hirsutum and 2 G. barbadense cultivars were evaluated at the Institute of Cotton and Durum Wheat, Chirpan, bulgaria. Inheritance of fibre length from G. barbadense was controlled by superdominance and complete and incomplete dominance, and slightly heterotic effects were observed. Hybrids had longer fibres if G. barbadense was used as the female parent.
