Intraspecific differentiation and geographical distribution of Wx alleles for low amylose content in endosperm of foxtail millet, Setaria italica (L.) Beauv

A total of 154 landraces of foxtail millet and 15 samples of green foxtail (Setaria viridis), the presumed wild ancestor of foxtail millet, were used in this study. Reciprocal crosses were made among landraces with different amylose contents, F1 and F2 plants were self fertilized and F2 and F3 seeds were harvested at maturity. The inheritance of different starch types in endosperm was examined by I2-KI staining.
