Iron bioavailability of AIN-93G purified diets for laboratory rodents

Iron bioavailability of AIN-93G purified diets for laboratory rodents

Nutritional Sciences Journal 23(3): 239-250

Fe availability of AIN-76 and AIN-93G diets were compared using a rat haemoglobin repletion bioassay. Weanling male Wistar rats were first rendered anaemic and fed AIN-76 diets or AIN-93G diets supplemented with 6, 12, 18 mg/kg Fe supplied as ferrous sulfate for 14 days. The major effect of diet types on repleted haemoglobin concentrations and the gain of haemoglobin Fe was not significant based on two-way ANOVA.
