Isolation and expression of cold specific genes in potato (Solanum sogarandinum)

Expression of genes corresponding to 24 cDNA clones (Ssci) representing cold-induced mRNAs was examined by northern blot hybridization in potato plantlets treated with cold, NaCl, sorbitol, water and ABA. Response of the genes to cold was examined in 2 related potato species: frost resistant S. sogarandinum (capable of cold acclimation); and cold sensitive S. tuberosum Cisa.
