Isolation and partial characterization of a lentivirus from talapoin monkeys (Myopithecus talapoin)

Isolation and partial characterization of a lentivirus from talapoin monkeys (Myopithecus talapoin)

Virology 260(1): 116-124

A lentivirus isolated from one of 3 talapoin monkeys, positive for serum antibodies to human immunodeficiency virus type 1, was tentatively named simian immunodeficiency virus from talapoin monkeys (SIVtal). The virus was readily transmitted between captive monkeys by unknown routes. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells from the talapoin monkeys were susceptible to the lentivirus while human peripheral blood mononuclear cells and human T cells were not.
