Juvenile wood in silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies Karst.)

Juvenile wood in silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies Karst.)

Les Ljubljana 50(1/2): 5-7

Tracheid length in relation to number of rings from the pith was determined in 3 Norway spruce and 3 silver fir trees. The duration of juvenile wood was estimated to be about 30 years. In both juvenile and mature wood a slight increase in tracheid length across the growth ring was observed.
