Managing cadmium contamination of agricultural land

The main sources of Cd contamination of Australian agricultural land and research to minimize its impact on the quality of agricultural crops are reviewed. Sewage sludge will be increasingly applied to soils near the sites of its production, but total potential application is unlikely to exceed 2-4 t Cd/year. Atmospheric deposition of cadmium is only of local significance near some smelters.
