Meeting of specialist group V Animal Nutrition. Milk urea and milk protein content in the dairy goat as criteria for the assessment of protein- and energy supply

Meeting of specialist group V Animal Nutrition. Milk urea and milk protein content in the dairy goat as criteria for the assessment of protein- and energy supply

Kongressband 1997 Leipzig Vortrage zum Generalthema des 109 VDLUFA Kongresses vom 15-1991997 in Leipzig Stoff und Energiebilanzen in der Landwirtschaft und weitere Beitrage aus den offentlichen Sitzungen, Leipzig, Germany, 15-19 September 1997: 135-138

An investigation was made to determine whether it might be possible to use a system similar to that used with dairy cows whereby the urea and protein content of the milk can serve as indicators of the energy and protein supply status of the dairy goat. A "9-field scheme" was tested in a field trial with 396 milking goats over the first 4 months of lactation. The goats were kept at 3 different farms in Oberbayern and differentiated between high-, medium- and low-yielding animals.
