Metabolic profile variation and reproductive performance of Holstein cows having different milk yields in southern Brazil

Metabolic profile variation and reproductive performance of Holstein cows having different milk yields in southern Brazil

Arquivos da Faculdade de Veterinaria, UFRGS 26(1): 52-64

Blood samples were obtained from 120 cows in 4 herds in Rio Grande do Sul state (southern Brazil) between winter 1996 and summer 1997. Groups of animals were selected based on production records and included 42 high-yielding cows (>9000 kg/lactation), 38 moderately productive cows (6000-7500 kg/lactation) and 40 pregnant dry cows. Lactating cows had higher blood concentrations of cholesterol and globulins than dry cows.
