Methane production from dairy wastewater

Journal of Scientific and Industrial Research 58(7): 543-546

A non-attached bacterial growth process was applied for biomethanogenesis from dairy waste water. A mixed population of mesophilic methanogenic bacteria isolated from cow dung was used as inoculum. Chemical oxygen demand decreased to approximately 92% as a result of 66 days of hydraulic retention time, in batch process. A substantial quantity (approximately 83.3%) of volatile suspended solids decreased with evolution of 50% methane in each cycle of the repeated batch process.
