Abstract
An account is given of the external morphology, distribution and biology of the economically important Isoptera genus Microtermes in Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania and Zambia. Twenty species (including 12 new species) are described and illustrated, and their known distributions are mapped. Keys are given to the imagos of 12 species, and the soldier and worker castes of all 20 species.
