Milk replacer as a sole feed for veal production from Holstein Friesian calves: 1. Effect of frequency of feeding milk replacer and age of animals on growth, feed utilization and quality of meat

Alexandria Journal of Agricultural Research 41(3): 11-21

Thirty male Holstein Friesian calves, 4 days old, mean weight 43.97+or-4.5 kg, were divided into 2 groups, and fed on milk substitute only once (group A) or twice (group B) daily for 16 weeks. Digestibility trials were conducted on 3 calves from each group during weeks 8, 12 and 16 of the study. Daily liveweight gain and relative weight increased (P<0.05) with increasing age and/or feeding frequency.
