Residential wood combustion results in areas with very high particulate emissions with high percentages of inhalable particles. Especially in rural areas, where wood is frequently used for heating, residential wood combustion is an important source for soot and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), mainly in winter.
