Phytoaccumulation of trace elements by wetland plants: II. Water hyacinth

Phytoaccumulation of trace elements by wetland plants: II. Water hyacinth

Journal of Environmental Quality 28(1): 339-344

The authors investigated the ability of water hyacinth to absorb and translocate 6 trace elements: As(V), Cd(II), Cr(VI), Cu(II), Ni(II), and Se(VI). The hyacinth accumulated Cd and Cr to the greatest extent, Se and Cu to a moderate extent, but was a poor accumulator of As and Ni. Se was more highly accumulated in the shoots, while the other elements were mostly accumulated in the roots.
