Phytoaccumulation of trace elements by wetland plants: III. Uptake and accumulation of ten trace elements by twelve plant species

Phytoaccumulation of trace elements by wetland plants: III. Uptake and accumulation of ten trace elements by twelve plant species

Journal of Environmental Quality 28(5): 1448-1455

Twelve wetland plant species were tested for their efficiency to bioconcentrate 10 potentially toxic trace elements. A recirculation nutrient culture technique was used to ensure that all plant species were exposed to the same concentration of each trace element. Smartweed (Polygonum hydropiperoides Michx.) appeared to be the best plant species for trace element removal from wastewater due to its faster growth and higher plant density.
