The testis of 25 male buffaloes, 13 aged between 1 day and 6 months, 4 aged 2 years and 8 aged 3-3.5 or >6 years were examined. The intertubular tissue varied between 19-30% in different age groups. Two populations of Leydig cells were observed during postnatal development. Degenerating fetal Leydig cells were present in groups around blood vessels in calves of up to 4 months of age and contained abundant large lipid droplets.
