The purified product of cloning a cDNA fragment encoding most of the extracellular part of the MHC class II beta chain (MhcOnmy-DAB) into a bacterial expression vector was used to raise an antiserum in rabbits. The antiserum was specific for the recombinant Omny-DAB product and recognized a 34-kDa band in Western blots after SDS-PAGE separation of cell membrane preparations from spleen or pronephros, but not from muscle tissue.
