Prospects for developing bamboo shoot production in the Jin-Qu basin

Zhejiang province in China has 480 000 ha of bamboo forest. The Jin-Qu basin has the second largest area of Phyllostachys pubescens cultivation in the province with 66 000 ha and the climate is ideal for bamboos. Two cities, Jinhua and Quzhou, have large areas of unused agricultural land which could be used for bamboo shoot production. P. propinqua and especially P. prominens are ideally suited to the climatic conditions in this part of Zhejiang.
