Dairy calves kept in a group with constant composition (TK-Gk) and provided with minimal handling, and in another one of changing composition with intensified human-animal-contact (TK-Gw), were reared with an automatic milk feeder. Six animals out of each group were exposed to standardized transport by road at 60 days and again at 90 days of age. Heart rate was recorded and blood sampled before, just after transport and in the morning of the following day as well.
