Recovery of bovine oocytes. Effect of aspiration pressure on the quality and number of oocytes recovered

Recovery of bovine oocytes. Effect of aspiration pressure on the quality and number of oocytes recovered

Medicina Veterinaria 14(12): 683-690

2075 cumulus-oocyte complexes were obtained from slaughtered cows by follicular aspiration, using a vacuum pump at a pressure of 50, 100, 150 or 300 mm Hg (equivalent to a flow rate of 10, 22, 34 or 66 ml/min) or by manual aspiration using a syringe (controls), and were matured in vitro. Using the 5 methods, the oocyte collection rate was 24.96, 39.29, 30.08, 27.86 and 28.52% respectively (the differences between groups 2 and 3 and the other 3 groups being significant).
