Abstract
Holstein and Swiss Brown cattle were imported into Turkey from other European countries to improve the stock for milk production. Under Middle Anatolian conditions in Konya, various reproductive traits (age at first calving, number of inseminations per gestation, service period, gestation length and calving interval) were studied from the records of 23 Holstein and 39 Swiss Brown cows from 1989 to 1993; the results were analysed statistically and are tabulated. Differences between breeds were not significant, but all traits tended to be worse under Turkish conditions; some significant differences in age and year were noted.
