In field trials in 1983-92 on a dystrophic red Latosol in Maua da Serra, Parana, Brazil, soyabeans were given 0, 40, 80, 120, 160 or 200 kg K2O/ha annually for the first 5 years and no K for the following 5 years. It was concluded that Latosols, with low K availability, could not cultivated without corrective and maintenance applications of K fertilizer.
