Restricted feeding of blue foxes (Alopex lagopus) prior to reproduction

Restricted feeding of blue foxes (Alopex lagopus) prior to reproduction

Roczniki Naukowe Zootechniki 24(2): 109-119

On a fur farm at the Experimental Station in Chorzelow 360 female and 135 male blue foxes divided in 3 groups (I, II and III) received complete daily rations, complete daily rations every second day, and half rations daily, respectively. Traditional feeding of foxes in the period before reproduction with high monthly temperatures made the foxes excessively fat, which delayed the onset of the breeding season and decreased the breeding indices.
