Seed cotton yield, its components and the associated weeds as affected by nitrogen fertilizer rates and hoeing

In field trials in Egypt in 1995-96, cotton Giza 85 was given 0-90 kg N/feddan and weeded 0-4 times. Fresh and dry weight of weeds at 90 days after sowing (DAS) increased with up to 90 kg N/feddan, while weed weight at 135 DAS was highest with 67.5 kg N. Weed weight decreased with increased number of hoeings, but the difference between 3 and 4 hoeings was not significant. Seed cotton yield was highest with 67.5 kg N/feddan and 3-4 hoeings.
