Laboratory studies were carried out to determine the selectivity of the herbicide cyhalofop-butyl ester on enzyme activity, biosynthesis of fatty acids and protein in rice and Echinochloa crus-galli. The inhibition of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) was greater in E. crus-galli than in rice following treatment with cyhalofop-butyl ester. The I50 of ACCase activity in E. crus-galli was 1-2 ppm and >10 ppm in rice.
