Some peculiarities in the preferential behaviour of pre-imaginal phases of mosquitoes

Some peculiarities in the preferential behaviour of pre-imaginal phases of mosquitoes

Zoologicheskii Zhurnal 76(7): 823-827

The circadian rhythms of preferential reactions to heat, light, salinity and pH were studied in 4th-instar larvae of Aedes communis, Culex pipiens and Mochlonyx culiciformis The behaviour of A. communis and C. pipiens differed only in reaction to heat. The behaviour of the predatory larvae and pupae of M. culiciformis differed: pupae showed a marked light preference rhythm and the larvae showed a positive salinity preferential behaviour to low salinity.
