Banafsha is an important herbal drug of indigenous systems of medicine and is considered to be antipyretic, diaphoretic and febrifuge. Flowers of Viola odorata are considered to constitute the genuine drug Banafsha, but V. pilosa, with similar medicinal properties, is mostly used to substitute for V. odorata.
